As has been seen in the disassembly of a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4090 AORUS MASTER from Gigabyteit seems that NVIDIA would have considered at some point in the development of these graphics cards support for NV-Linkthe new graphics card interconnection system that arrived for retire the well-known SLI connector.
However, this connector has disappeared in this generation of graphics cards, at least at the level of gaming graphics cards, but it seems that Gigabyte has left the entire NV-Link section on top of their PCBsso it could be a last minute change that had not arrived in time for all manufacturers.
It is also possible that we are encountering some kind of error, like having based almost entirely on the PCB of an RTX 3090 for the design of this PCB and that they have simply neglected to eliminate the tracks for NV-Link, or that it has been directly cheaper cover up that entire section with solder mask than redesign that section of the PCB.
For whatever reason, Gigabyte’s RTX 4090s are arriving with the tracks for NV-Link on their PCB, so soon we’ll probably see someone try to connect two of these cards to see what happens, since you can even see the way in which the PCB would have to be cut in order to install the bridge.
