Nvidia launches its new generation of graphics with the RTX 4080/90, with improved ray tracing and up to 24 GB from €1,099

As expected, Nvidia has announced its new generation of RTX 4000 consumer graphics cards in the context of the GTC conference. based on architecture Ada Lovelaceaspires to be clearly above the current RTX 3000 range, bringing significant improvements in the processing of supersampling by AI and cores of ray tracing improved.

Ada Lovelace is a new-generation architecture that brings together the usual improvements in density, efficiency and performance, but its figures are no less impressive because they are expected. In addition to having a higher number of transistors, the Tensor and Ray Tracing cores have been redesigned to improve their processing speed.

Taking advantage of these optimizations, the GeForce RTX 4080 and 4090 will be in charge of brand new DLSS 3, which is capable of generating full scaled images instead of individual pixels, which could drastically increase their processing speed. To demonstrate these capabilities, Portal players will be able to download a specially updated version (Portal RTX) in November that adds support for ray tracing and DLSS 3.

Initially, Nvidia will launch three RTX 4000 cards: the RTX 4080, available in two memory configurations, and the RTX 4090, with a whopping 24GB. in the absence of knowing benchmarks independents, the manufacturer promises to practically double the FPS rates of games like Flight Simulator and Warhammer 40K Darktide (somewhat less in the case of the 12 GB RTX 4080) compared to an RTX 3090 Ti, although more notable is Cyberpunk 2077, which with the new RT Overdrive function quadruples its performance.

Of course, this increase in performance comes at a high cost in terms of energy, although compared to the RTX 3090 Ti that serves as an official reference (450 W), it is not excessive either, with the 12 GB RTX 4080 requiring 285 W and a 700 W system. Price and release date

The launch of the new RTX 4000 will be carried out in stages. The RTX 4090 will arrive first on October 12, followed in November by the RTX 4080 in both configurations. As far as rates are concerned, Nvidia’s initial range will consist of three cards in Founders Edition format with the following prices:

  • GeForce RTX 4080 12 GB: 1,099 euros
  • GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB: 1,469 euros
  • GeForce RTX 4090 24 GB: 1,959 euros
