Designed to take advantage of the new Tensor cores and ray tracing Present in the RTX 4000 GPUs, DLSS 3 stands out in a very particular way for its ability to offload to the CPU in those games where the computer’s processor is an even greater limitation than the graphics card itself, such is the case of Flight Simulator.
According to the official literature, DLSS 3 is no longer limited to reconstructing the image pixel by pixel, but using what Nvidia calls the Optical Flow Generator, it is capable of predicting the movement between two frames to generate complete intermediate images. Specifically, Nvidia notes that DLSS 3 reconstructs three-quarters of the first frame using DLSS Super Resolution and the entire second frame using DLSS Frame Generation to create a roughly 85% reconstructed final frame.
Together with the new ray tracing processing cores present in the RTX 4000 cards, Nvidia ensures that the performance of some games can be multiplied by four, although this will largely depend on the resolution and quality level chosen.
One thing Nvidia hasn’t clarified is whether DLSS 3 will be available for older RTX graphics cards, but mentions of fourth-gen Tensor Cores (exclusive to RTX 4000) don’t give much hope. We do know however that DLSS 2 compliant games will be easily upgradeable to DLSS 3 if their developers so desire.
Be that as it may, DLSS 3 will be available in October to take advantage of the new hardware from the moment of its launch.
