June 30 (Portaltic/EP) –
Sony Interactive Entertainment Spain has released this friday Inner Ashesthe video game developed by Calathea Game Studio in which the players will enter a narrative adventure that makes visible the difficulties of the sick Alzheimer’s.
The video game, developed in Madrid, has been Posted by Select Play and, furthermore, it has been recognized with an award at the VI Edition of the PlayStation Awardsfor making Alzheimer’s disease visible with a “respectful, educational and full of meaning” work.
So, Inner Ashes is an adventure that its creators define as “moving” and that tells the story of Henrya former ranger struggling to regain his memories. In this way, the players will embody the role of the protagonist who, after receiving a letter from his only daughter, embarks on an “introspective journey” to remember “the reasons why life separated them.”
As the creators have detailed in a statement, the image of the protagonist shows how he lives between two worlds, “one real and one distorted due to his state of mind”. Likewise, from Calathea Game Studio they have explained that, in this framework, they saw the opportunity to “tell a story that felt close and, at the same time, of make visible a disease suffered by millions of people around the world”.
When playing, users will be able to “explore Henry’s mind” through various scenarios in which they must solve puzzles. These spaces have a “dreamlike and evocative” artistic style, and are intended to represent different features of the disease, as well as the protagonist’s forgotten past.
Within this framework, the design of the video game intends to convey to the players a interpretation of the sensations and perceptions that an Alzheimer patient may have. In order to capture these sensations in the most rigorous way, the creators carried out a previous research work.
So much so, that the gameplay mechanics of history are inspired by real therapies that patients with this disease use to mitigate symptoms, as detailed by the developer.
As they have exemplified, one of Henry’s everyday objects are post-its, on which he writes down tasks or names of objects. These post-its will serve the protagonist “in his mental world” to “interact with elements of the setting and solve puzzles,” the study has detailed.
Inner Ashes is now available to players for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and for PCvia Steam, for a price of €14.99.
