Nothing unveils the CMF Phone 1, a surprising low-cost and easy-to-repair smartphone available from 199 euros

Nothing has given one of the surprises of this lethargic month of July with the debut of its CMF sub-brand, dedicated to the marketing of devices that are easier to repair and more affordable. Its first product is the CMF Phone 1, a mobile phone that replaces Nothing’s classic minimalist aesthetic with a design that stands out for the incorporation of a removable back cover and a price that could be considered suggestive.

Equipped with a 6.67-inch Super AMOLED panel and considerable brightness, the CMF Phone 1 hides a chipset MediaTek 7300, manufactured using a 4nm process, with 8GB of RAM. This hardware gives it fairly all-terrain performance, partly thanks to the fact that the operating system is Android 14 with the usual Nothing modifications, which leaves its ROMs quite clean. Update support will be fairly standard, with 2 years of Android revisions and 3 years of security patches.

  • Display: 6.67-inch Super AMOLED, 2400 x 1080 resolution, up to 120 Hz and 2,000 nits of peak brightness.
  • Processor: MediaTek Dimensity 7300
  • Memory: 8 GB
  • Storage: 128/256 GB (expandable via microSD)
  • Rear cameras
    • Main: 50 megapixels
    • Depth: 2 MP
  • Front camera: 16 MP
  • Battery: 5,000 mAh with 33W fast charging and 5W reverse charging
  • Dimensions and weight: 164 x 77 x 8 mm and 197 grams (8 mm thick and 202 grams with imitation leather option)
  • Others: Nothing OS 2.6 (Android 14), 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, USB-C, under-display fingerprint reader and IP52 protection against dust and water

The rest of the technical specifications move more or less along the same lines, with a rear camera composed of a 50 MP main sensor joined to a 2 MP one to generate blur effects (there is not even an ultra-wide sensor in use), a 5,000 mAh battery and IP52 level resistance despite the fact that the rear panel is held in place using screws.

Undoubtedly one of its most distinctive features, this cover allows for easier access to the inside of the phone, thus avoiding the complex (and delicate) process of having to disassemble the device using heat or special tools to lift the screen and access the internal components. In particular, it seems that the battery can be removed as in phones of yesteryear, thus increasing the useful life of the mobile. An anchor point located in one corner also facilitates the use of accessories such as straps, a kickstand or a card holder.

The CMF Phone 1 will be priced in Spain at 249 euros for the 8+128 GB model and 269 euros for the 8+256 GB model, although currently the base model has a launch discount that leaves it at 199 euros.
