March 31 () –
Norwegian authorities have seized a cache of more than 800 kilos of cocaine, a record amount in the country’s history, after receiving a tip from Germany about a suspicious shipment of fruit from South America, where the drug was found.
So far there is no record of arrests since the seizure of the cache last Thursday at a factory in Oslo, according to Inspector Grete Metlid at a press conference collected by the newspaper ‘Dagbladet’.
The seized cache is worth an estimated tens of millions of euros and is linked to another major seizure, this time in the German region of Brandenburg, where security forces seized 1,200 kilos of cocaine hidden in boxes of Ecuadorian bananas.
Norwegian police are now beginning to cooperate with other countries in Europe to, among other things, see if the seizure is related to other large anti-drug operations outside of the one carried out in Germany.
