Norway jails citizen arrested for spying for Russia for four weeks

COPENHAGEN, Oct. 28 (DPA/EP) –

The Norwegian Justice has approved jailing for four weeks a man arrested earlier this week for allegedly having spied on behalf of Russia, which is a “threat to the interests” of the Scandinavian country.

According to investigations, the detainee was carrying a false passport indicating that he was a Brazilian national and was arrested on his way to work at the University of Tromso, in northern Norway.

According to the reports made by the Justice of the capital, Oslo, the detainee collaborated with a hybrid war investigation group in favor of Russia, according to the Norwegian television network NRK.

The Norwegian secret service (PST) has indications that the arrested man is really a Russian citizen of around 44 years old and that he has been working for Russian Intelligence from Norway to date, benefiting from false documentation.

Norwegian authorities have arrested several Russian citizens in recent days accused of spying for Russia. Most of the accusations are made for having flown drones in order to take images of the border areas.

Russia has already responded to this trend and has called on its population to take extreme precautions if they plan to travel to the Nordic country.
