North Korean troops sent to Russia to join war

NORTH KOREA – RUSSIA

North Korea has started sending troops to support Russia in Ukraineaccording to South Korea’s spy agency. The accusation was made public the day after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared that 10,000 North Korean soldiers could join the war. According to the agency, 1,500 soldiers have already arrived in Russia, and anonymous sources told South Korean media that the final number could be around 12,000 men.

ISRAEL – GAZA

At least 33 people died yesterday and 85 were injured in Israeli attacks that hit several houses in Jabaliathe largest of Gaza’s eight historic refugee camps, according to doctors, where residents said tanks blew up roads and houses. The press office of the Hamas-led Gaza government stated that the death toll from the attacks could rise because some people were trapped under the rubble.

CHINA

China is carrying out a study on the “general fear of having children.” China’s National Health Commission (NHC) is conducting a survey of 30,000 people to understand the factors influencing their attitudes towards motherhood, as authorities struggle to boost the declining birth rate. The survey will include people from 150 counties in China and 1,500 different communities.

MYANMAR

In western Rakhine State, intense fighting between junta troops and ethnic rebels. The Arakan Army, or AA, which fights for the self-determination of the predominantly Buddhist Rakhine people, has conquered territories throughout Rakhine State and controls 10 of the 17 municipalities. It would be the first rebel group to take control of a State if it manages to conquer all the territory controlled by the military, as it has promised.

MALAYSIA

A bill granting muftis of the federal territories the power to issue religious edicts has raised concerns among Malaysian Muslims, who fear it violates their freedom of choice. The Federal Territories Mufti Bill 2024 aims to formalize the position of the mufti (Muslim jurist) of the federal territories, which cover the capital, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

RUSSIA

Marina Egorova, a university professor and wife of politician Leonid Gozman, who is out of the country to escape a sentence related to fake news about the war, was arrested in Moscow. The woman has been accused of “smuggling cultural values” because she tried to leave Russia with family silver objects, in “criminal association” with the driver.

ARMENIA – AZERBAIJAN
