North Korean media does not mention Kim Jong Un's birthday

8 Jan. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The official North Korean press and media have not mentioned that this Sunday is the birthday of the country’s leader, Kim Jong Un, who turns 39.

Neither the official news agency, KCNA, nor the newspaper with the largest circulation, the ‘Rodong Sinmun’ have mentioned Kim’s birthday, a fact that draws attention to the cult of personality that is a hallmark of the North Korean Stalinist regime. .

Kim assumed command of the country in 2011 after the death of his father, Kim Jong Il, who in turn inherited power from his father, Kim Il Sung, founder of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. Since then he has been praised as a “symbol” of North Korea’s strength and “guardian of the nation,” recalls the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

The day of Kim Il Sung’s birth is an official holiday in the country and is celebrated as Sunshine Day, while the day of Kim Jong Il’s birth is Bright Star Day, also a holiday. Kim Jong Un’s birthday is not an official holiday.
