North Korea vows 'crushing countermeasures' after trilateral exercises by Seoul, Tokyo and Washington

June 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

North Korea has vowed to take “crushing countermeasures” in a statement condemning its southern neighbor, the United States and Japan for their recent trilateral exercises that ended on Saturday.

The exercises, called Freedom Edge, were designed, according to the three countries, to defend themselves against the threat posed to them by North Korea and represented an unprecedented drill between three countries in several combat areas: land, sea, air and even computer space.

North Korea, in response, “will never ignore the measures of the United States and its supporters to strengthen the military bloc, but will firmly defend the sovereignty, security and interests of the State and peace in the region through countermeasures.” offensive and overwhelming,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement. The Ministry denounces above all that these exercises have acquired an invasive aspect and convey “the appearance of an Asian version of NATO”, in addition to the fact that the three countries have based these exercises on pretexts and what they have actually done is exchange data missile warning that poses a threat to Pyongyang.

“The United States, which had already pushed for the entry of Japan and the Republic of Korea (South Korea) into NATO 18 years ago, has become more frenetic in realizing the organic link between NATO and Japan and the Republic of Korea since it focused its strategic focus on the Asia-Pacific region,” denounces the North Korean Ministry.

The exercises occurred after the signing of a strategic security agreement between Russia and North Korea following a visit by Russian President Vladimir Putin, which put the triple alliance on alert.

It should be remembered that the US Army already announced after Putin’s visit the deployment of several strategic bombers to a US military base located on the island of Guam, in the western part of the Pacific Ocean, a measure adopted just one day after that the Russian and North Korean authorities signed this cooperation agreement that includes a mutual defense clause.
