North Korea sends balloons with waste to South Korea again

This is the fifth shipment of this type in just a month

June 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The North Korean authorities sent hundreds of balloons with debris inside to South Korea again this Monday, a measure that represents the fifth shipment of this type in just a month and that occurs after the launch of pamphlets against Kim Jong Un by North Korean defectors from across the border.

The South Korean Army has confirmed this latest launch has fallen in the province of Gyeonggi, close to the border between the two Koreas. Thus, it has asked the population to avoid contact with the balloons and inform the authorities, a request that comes after parasites have been recorded in previous shipments, according to information from the South Korean news agency Yonhap.

Last Friday, Kim Yong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, asked to send more such balloons after North Korean defectors dropped propaganda leaflets. Since May 28, North Korean authorities have launched more than 1,600 balloons of this type in a total of four shipments.

For years, North Korean defectors and conservative activists have been dropping leaflets against the North Korean regime with balloons launched from across the border, always urging the North Korean population to rise up and fight.

North Korean authorities have on numerous occasions rejected what they consider a propaganda campaign launched from the south and have warned that information coming from abroad “threatens their leadership.”
