North Korea launches more than 100 balloons with garbage towards South Korea for the fifth consecutive day

September 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

North Korea on Sunday launched more than 100 balloons with garbage towards South Korea for the fifth consecutive day, of which 40 fell in Seoul and Gyeonggi province, a provocation that is part of the cross-propaganda activities initiated months ago between the two countries.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff have confirmed that Pyongyang has sent around 120 balloons filled with paper, plastic and bottles, but no dangerous substances have been detected in them, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency reported.

In this regard, they have promised to respond with “firmness” and “calm,” which could translate into broadcasting propaganda on the border with North Korea through large loudspeakers, as they have been doing in recent weeks.

North Korean authorities launched nearly 200 balloons carrying garbage into South Korean territory on Saturday, marking more than 17 rounds of launches since late May in response to the resumption of psychological warfare through leaflet dropping and propaganda broadcasts across the border.
