North Korea launches a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan

13 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The South Korean Army has reported this Thursday that North Korea has launched a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan, in the context of increased tensions in the region.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff is looking at launch specifications, such as the type of missile and the distance of the flight.

This comes days after North Korean President Kim Jong Un met with senior officials from the country’s military to stress the “need” for war deterrence to be “more offensive.”

In addition, Seoul has denounced that its neighbor to the north has not responded to routine security calls through the joint communication channel for six consecutive days, criticizing its “unilateral and irresponsible attitude.”

The South Korean authorities said on Monday that they were considering the possibility that Pyongyang had “unilaterally” suspended the communication channel, through which both countries maintained two daily contacts.
