September 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The South Korean military has reported detecting the launch of several short-range ballistic missiles from North Korea towards the Sea of Japan, the first time they have carried out such an action since July 1 and which coincides with the continued escalation of tensions that the Korean peninsula has been experiencing for months.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff have reported on the incident, saying they are “fully prepared” and working with US and Japanese authorities, Yonhap news agency reported.

Authorities detected the launch at around 7.10 am (local time) from the Pyongyang area and are still determining the specifications of the projectiles and information on their range.

North Korea’s latest missile launch came in response to joint military exercises between South Korea, Japan and the United States, when the missiles flew as far as 600 kilometers and 120 kilometers respectively.
