North Korean authorities confirmed on Tuesday the “success” of a tactical missile test the day before, when the South Korean Army reported the launch of two ballistic missiles towards the Sea of Japan.
“The Missile General Office of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea successfully test-fired a new type of tactical ballistic missile, the ‘Hwasongpo-11Da-4.5’, on July 1,” North Korea’s state news agency KCNA said in a statement.
This new projectile, equipped with a 4.5-ton “super-large” warhead, has a minimum range of 90 kilometers and a maximum range of up to 500 kilometers.
The office has also confirmed that it will carry out a test in July to confirm the precision and power of this same missile in a “medium-range” launch of 250 kilometres.
North Korea launched another ballistic missile on June 26 in what it claimed was a “successful test of a missile with multiple warheads.” The missile exploded in mid-flight, Seoul said, a claim denied by the North Korean government.
