North Korea condemns presence of US submarine in South Korean port of Busan

September 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, strongly criticized on Tuesday the presence of a nuclear-powered submarine belonging to the United States Navy in the South Korean port of Busan, where it has been docked since Monday.

He said that this was a “show of US ambition”, a country he accused of “transferring its strategic nuclear assets in a show of strength”. This, he said, only “increases the threat” on the Korean peninsula, as reported by the North Korean news agency KCNA.

In this regard, he said that Pyongyang will implement all necessary measures to achieve “nuclear containment” and “stop threats from outside.” “State security will be constantly exposed to nuclear threats and blackmail from the United States,” he said.

Kim ventured that “nothing will change” and lamented that “strategic assets of the United States will never find a peaceful place to rest in the Korean Peninsula region,” according to the statement.

The submarine USS Vermont arrived at the base in Busan, located some 320 kilometers from Seoul, the capital of the country, after completing a series of military exercises in the region. The Navy has indicated that the parties are planning to carry out joint activities within the framework of “friendly” relations.
