North Korea’s vice foreign minister, Kim Son Gyong, accused the United States on Thursday of being the “greatest proliferator of weapons of mass destruction” and condemned the military maneuvers launched with South Korea in the immediate vicinity.
“The US and South Korean puppets are persistently pushing the saber rattling against North Korea despite great concern and protests from the international community,” he was quoted as saying by the North’s state news agency KCNA.
“The United States, which has launched nuclear war exercises, is going to carry out exercises with Japan, South Korea, Australia and other forces under the Proliferation Security Initiative in waters near Korea,” he asserted before qualifying that Washington it has made “systematic use of this initiative to put pressure on independent countries opposed to the United States.”
Thus, he has pointed out that this is “illogical” and constitutes a “mockery” of international law given that the United States is the “greatest proliferator of weapons of mass destruction in the world and a direct destroyer of the international non-proliferation system.”
With these words, he wanted to highlight the “contradiction” of the US government and recalled that Washington has “allowed Israel to possess nuclear weapons while outlining a nuclear proliferation mechanism called AUKUS to destroy the non-proliferation system.”
“This is taking place as the United States and South Korea carry out their largest joint exercises, which aggravates the situation,” he asserted before clarifying that these exercises are taking place in an area adjacent to “disputed waters.”
