No survivors found in small plane crash with 10 occupants

Colombian authorities found no survivors on Friday of a crash involving a small plane carrying eight passengers and two crew members, after two days of searching in a mountainous area in the northwest of the country.

The Cessna 402 type aircraft, registration HK2522, lost contact with air traffic control on Wednesday afternoon while covering the route between Juradó, in the department of Chocó, and Medellín, in Antioquia.

Civil Aeronautics confirmed on Friday that the aircraft sighted in the mountains of Urrao, a municipality in Antioquia, the day before from a helicopter that was conducting the search corresponded to HK2522, with no survivors found.

The entity indicated in a statement that efforts will be made to assist the families of the victims and investigations to determine the causes of the event.

“All of Antioquia joins in the pain of their families, we accompany them and hope that God gives them peace in the midst of so much sadness,” said the governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rincón, from his X account, formerly Twitter.

The government indicated that it will proceed to extract the bodies, and then deliver them to the families. A process that could extend until Saturday due to the complexities of the mountainous terrain.
