no service on the Finnish side

The Finnish company GlobalConnect reported this Tuesday that one of its telecommunications cables connecting Finland and Sweden has suffered damage at two different points, causing the service interruption on the Finnish side.

As explained by the company in a statement, the fault was detected on Monday afternoon and was located in the terrestrial section of a fiberglass cable between the two Nordic countries, in the municipalities of Espoo and Vihti (southern Finland).

“Two separate cuts in the cable caused a big disruption in Finland. “The submarine cables have not been damaged,” the company said in the statement.

The Minister of Transport and Communications of Finland, Lulu Ranneconfirmed on social networks that an investigation has been launched to clarify the causes of the breakdown.

“The authorities are investigating the matter together with the company. We take the situation very seriously“wrote the minister.

This incident occurs two weeks after the mysterious breakage of two underwater telecommunications cables between Finland and Germany and between Sweden and Lithuania was detected, something that the authorities of these countries are investigating as alleged acts of sabotage.
