Saturday. What can I say? Indeed, a new day of No Circulation Today SaturdayIn the middle of July, the program devised by the Secretariat of the Environment of CDMX (SEDEMA) remains active. Because, indeed, polluting emissions do not rest.
As the main objective of the Hoy No Circula programme is to reduce the volume of polluting emissions in the atmosphere, the state of air quality depends on reducing another volume: the number of cars on the road. As you can imagine, some cars will have to rest but others will not have to.
To improve the quality of the air we breathe, the Hoy No Circula project is designed to ensure that some cars have to stay at home. A project that applies to the 16 municipalities in Mexico City and the following metropolitan municipalities in the State of Mexico:
- Atizapan de Zaragoza
- Coacalco de Berriozabal
- Cuautitlan
- Cuautitlan Izcalli
- Chalco
- Chicoloapan
- Chimalhuacan
- Ecatepec de Morelos
- Huixquilucan
- Ixtapaluca
- Peace
- Naucalpan de Juarez
- Nezahualcoyotl
- Nicolas Romero
- Tecámac
- Tlalnepantla de Baz
- Tultitlan
- Chalco Valley
Which cars and license plates are affected by the Saturday Hoy No Circula?
Now that we’ve gone over the general lines, what does it mean that my car is affected by the Hoy No Circula program? Firstly, your car will have to stay at home for some days of the week. How many days and when will be determined by the program itself.
This means that the cars pictured above will have to face different restrictions depending on their license plate number and hologram. It will mainly be the latter that will determine who will have to rest and when.
With this in mind, some people will have to stay at home two days a week. In other cases, they will have to do so every other week (on alternate weeks). And, on the other hand, there are those who are exempt from complying with the restrictions on emissions. Restrictions that, in addition, are only active between 05:00 and 22:00 hours.
Having reviewed all these details, let’s review with the utmost clarity which cars can and cannot circulate on the streets where the Hoy No Circula program is applied. As we said, it will be the hologram and the license plate number that will determine who will do so this Saturday.
Cars with holograms 0 and 00 can move on any Saturday in July (and any other month). Cars with holograms 1 and 2 will be the ones that are really affected by the Saturday Hoy No Circula. The last ones, those with hologram 2, will have to stay at home every Saturday.
The hologram ones are the ones that rotate and this one Saturday, July 20which coincides with the third Saturday of the month, cars with hologram 1 whose license plate ends in an odd number will have to stay home.
However, we cannot forget that there are some exceptions that we cannot ignore. Thus, cars that meet any of the following characteristics do not have to stay at home under any circumstances:
- Those with hologram 0 and 00
- Those that run on electricity, natural gas or are hybrids
- Those who have a disabled license plate
- All those dedicated to urban transport services (including funeral services)
- Those who offer school or passenger transportation
- Those intended for public safety and/or civil protection
In case of non-compliance with these restrictions, the fine will be 20 to 30 times the Unit of Measurement and Update (UMA), equivalent to 1,924.40 pesos And till 2,886.60 pesos.
