Nintendo's next console will be compatible with Nintendo Switch games

nintendo has announced that the games developed for the Nintendo Switchas well as the Nintendo Switch Online service, will be compatible with the company’s next successor console, which is expected to be presented no later than March of next year.

The Japanese video game company announced in May of this year that would present its new video game console, successor to the current Nintendo Switch, during this fiscal year, which includes until the month of March of next year 2025.

Now, although the new console has not yet been presented, Nintendo has confirmed that it will be backward compatible. That is, previous games developed for the Nintendo Switch will also be available for the new successor console.

This has been made known by the Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa during an informative meeting on corporate management policies of the technology company, where he specified that the Content from the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service will also be compatible with the new hardwareas shared in a publication in X (former Twitter).

With all this, Furukawa has concluded by emphasizing that they will continue sharing more information about the company’s next console “later”, although he has not shared a specific date.

Nintendo presented this Tuesday the results for the first half of fiscal year 2025, a period during which it recorded an attributable net profit of 108,658 million yen (656.2 million euros). Likewise, he also clarified that, regarding the Nintendo Switch console saleswait sell 12.5 million game consoles throughout the year, one million less than planned.
