Nintendo Switch sales fall 22.9% due to "the global shortage of semiconductors"

Nintendo has announced that in the first quarter of its fiscal year sales of the console Switch have fallen 22.9 percent year-on-year, to 3.43 million units, due to “The Global Semiconductor Shortage”.

The company has blamed this drop on “the global shortage of semiconductors”, which has led to a lower volume of console manufacturing and, by extension, fewer devices distributed and put on sale in the market.

The group has highlighted, despite this, there have been “positive factors” observed in the first quarter analyzed, such as the depreciation of the country’s official currency, the yen, as well as the launch of Nintendo Switch OLEDconsole that has concentrated about half of the total sales of ‘hardware’ (about 1.52 million units).

Likewise, the Japanese manufacturer has recalled that the launch of the original Nintendo Switch took place six years ago and, currently, “Demand remains stable in all regions.”

Looking ahead to the rest of its fiscal year, Nintendo expects to “gradually improve” hardware production from late this summer through next fall. For the holiday season, he promises to “work to deliver as many Nintendo Switches as possible to consumers in every region.”

THE SALES OF ITS VIDEO GAMES ALSO RESENT

Sales in its ‘software’ section, that is, video games, have also fallen during the second quarter of the year. Specifically, 8.6 percent year-on-year, reaching 41.4 million units.

Nintendo has highlighted in this section the releases of Nintendo Switch Sports Y Mario Strikes: Battle Leaguein addition to the performance of other more long-lived titles, such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which according to the company has remained “stable”.
