We keep getting different statements from Nintendo and its president Shuntaro Furukawa, who answered some questions at a recent investor meeting. One of the topics that were discussed was the reason for having raised the salary of the employees during this 2023, for which the Japanese explained the reasons.
As you probably know, different aspects of Nintendo’s plans to use the same Switch account on its next hardware and even how to prevent reselling from affecting its successor were discussed at that meeting.
However, another of the points discussed was the recent salary increase for company workers. Due to this, the president of Nintendo wanted to make it clear why this action was carried out when asked by one of the investors:
“I think the most important thing is to value the excellent human resources that have built the brand. Unprecedented price increases continue on a global scale, and even in Japan the financial burden of everyday life is increasing. I recognize that this is increasing. Therefore, to respond to long-term and ongoing environmental changes, starting in April 2023, we regularly increase the base salary of all employees, including contract employees, part-time employees, and part-time workers. We increased it by 10%,” Furukawa said.

In addition, the executive wanted to clarify that human resources are a fundamental part for Nintendo that help strengthen the competitiveness of hiring and increase the overall strength of the company, for which there was a good reaction in general:
“We received a positive response from institutional investors who attach importance to HR strategies from a medium to long-term perspective. The video game industry is also intensifying competition to acquire human resources, ”he concluded.
