MADRID Jan 12 (EUROPA PRESS) –
A total of nine suspected “terrorists” have been killed in two operations by Pakistani security forces in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Two other suspects have been arrested and two more have been injured.
“The security forces have carried out an operation based on intelligence information in the Dosalli area due to the presence of Jairijis” or heretics, according to a military statement collected by the Pakistani newspaper ‘Dawn’. In this confrontation, six “terrorists” died and two more were arrested, it indicates.
In another operation, in Esham, “three Jairijis were neutralized by security forces after an intense firefight and two more Jairijis were injured.”
The killed militiamen were carrying weapons and ammunition. “They had actively participated in numerous terrorist activities against security forces and in attacks against innocent civilians,” the Pakistani Army stressed.
“Clearance operations are underway to eliminate any other Jairiji from this area. The Pakistan Security Forces are determined to eradicate the threat of terrorism from this country,” he stressed.
In July, the Pakistani government formally designated the Tehrik e Taliban Pakistan (TTP) group, known as the Pakistani Taliban, as Jairijis or infidels. Islamist militants have carried out numerous attacks against security forces since the ceasefire was broken in November 2022.
The TTP group, which differs from the Afghan Taliban in organizational matters but follows the same rigorous interpretation of Sunni Islam, brings together more than a dozen Islamist groups operating in Pakistan, where they have killed some 70,000 people in two decades of violence.
The year 2024 has been the deadliest since the resumption of the conflict, with 4,813 deaths and 444 attacks recorded, according to official statistics, which recognize a 66 percent increase in violence compared to the previous year.
