Dec. 24 (EUROPA PRESS) –
At least nine members of the Syrian security forces have been killed in several attacks carried out over the past day by Hayat Tahrir al Sham (HTS), a coalition of militias that includes former fighters from the al-Nusra Front, the now-defunct Syrian affiliate of Al Qaeda.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, based in London and informants in the Arab country, has indicated that the attacks have been carried out at various points on the line of contact agreed upon in the ceasefire agreement between Turkey and Russia in 2020, without Damascus having ruled on the matter.
Thus, it has indicated that at least three members of the government forces have died this Saturday in an artillery attack against their positions in the town of Al Fatira, while another two have died after being shot by snipers in Maarat Mujas.
On the other hand, two members of the Syrian forces have been shot to death in Saraqueb, east of Idlib, while another two died from sniper fire in this same area, as the agency has detailed through its website.
HTS is the most relevant armed group in the province of Idlib, which remains outside the control of the Syrian authorities. Various armed groups also operate in Idlib with the support of Turkey, which has also deployed soldiers in this province.
