Nike revolutionizes sportswear with a jacket that opens by itself when you sweat

The innovation and research of the Nike Sports Research Laboratory has made a sports garment that combines protection against the cold and breathability, opening and closing autonomously. It will hit stores in July.

Nike has launched a sports jacket on the market designed to adapt to the needs during physical activity. The jacket uses an innovative technology called Aerogamiwhich allows greater breathability by detecting sweat on the body: automatically adjusts as you sweat.

The garment has a ventilation system that adapts autonomously to the needswith small winged openings that open as sweat accumulates on the skin, allowing better airflow and facilitating sweat evaporation.

When the body cools and the sweat dries, the openings close again. This is made possible by a moisture-sensitive film applied to the openings that contracts and expands autonomously when it senses sweat on the body.

Nike’s jacket is the first product to feature this revolutionary technology. It’s designed to solve one of the most common problems runners face: regulating body temperature and ventilation while wearing a running jacket.

The ventilation system is located in the chest and back area, the areas where runners generate the most heat and sweat. When moving, the airflow travels through the jacket, providing a feeling of freshness and comfort.

The women’s version will arrive in stores in July and the men’s version in autumn

Innovation is the result of working together with scientists and innovators from the Nike Exploration Team (NXT) and the Nike Sports Research Laboratory (NSRL). The team of researchers has made significant progress in the development of a garment that combines warmth and breathability for athletes, confirming a turn in the commercial strategy of Nike.

Although designing a garment that keeps the athlete warm is relatively simple, ensuring the ability to evaporate and escape sweat at the same time represents a greater challenge. The women’s version of the Aerogami garment will be available from July 2023 in nike.com and selected stores, the men’s is expected for autumn. There is no news at the moment of its price.
