Nicole Scherzinger broke her silence following the tragic death of Liam Payne at the age of 31.
On Friday, the 46-year-old shared an emotional Tribute to Instagram to Payne.
Along with Simon Cowell, Scherzinger is credited with forming the late singer One Direction’s boy band, which included Zayn Malik, Harry Styles, Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson, on the 2010 season of “The X Factor.”
“Dear Liam, I will always cherish and treasure the time we shared together, from fifteen years ago, when One Direction was born, to just a few weeks ago,” she wrote alongside two photos of herself, Payne and Kelly Rowland. “It was a great blessing to work with you recently. “We shared the same love and passion for music and I will always remember the meaningful and joyful conversations we had.”
Scherzinger added: “It has been very difficult to process that you are no longer here, but I am grateful to have known your good heart, your sweet soul and your character.”
The former Pussycat Dolls star concluded: “You brought so much joy, light and laughter to the lives of those who truly knew you. I will ‘miss’ you my friend and I will carry you in my heart. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family.”
In August it was announced that Scherzinger, Rowland, 43, Payne and AJ McLean would star in a new Netflix series called “Building the Band.”
Scherzinger would act as mentor and judge, while Payne and Rowland would be on the show as sole judges.
The singer also paid her respects while appearing on “Good morning America.”
“Liam and I were pretty close, especially because we recently did a show together on Netflix called Building the Band,” she revealed. “And so, yes, I am heartbroken. “I’m heartbroken for Liam, I’m heartbroken for his family, his loved ones and his friends.”
Scherzinger continued: “Liam always led with his heart and with kindness, and I truly hope that is how he will always be remembered.”
The Broadway star’s sweet words come after composer Andrew Lloyd Webber revealed in an interview with Billboard the Thursday she had been texting Payne the day he died.
“I guess something that hasn’t been said, and I guess I could say it, is that of course she was Liam’s mentor. [Payne]of One Direction,” Webber, who composed the music for Scherzinger’s Broadway musical “Sunset Blvd.”.” revealed.
“On Wednesday when he died, she was still texting him that day, and [that evening] the reviewers came in [to ‘SUNSET’]“He had just found out that he had died,” he recalled. “And the fact that she did the show is extraordinary.”
The musician noted: “I mean, she is an amazing, amazing woman. She is without a doubt one of the best performers I have ever worked with.”
