Nicaragua negotiates its accession to BRICS

The Government of Nicaragua has set the goal of entering the BRICS and is negotiating this with member countries, said Laureano Ortega, the Nicaraguan president’s investment advisor.

“In fact, Nicaragua has already taken a clear position to become a BRICS partner country,” he told Sputnik.

“That is our objective, we have already raised it with the president of the organization, which is currently officially Russia, and we are negotiating with the member countries of BRICS to be able to be part of this great family,” said Ortega on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF).

BRICS is a large economic alliance of nations from the Global South, founded by Russia, China, India and Brazil, later joined by South Africa. BRICS has recently undergone a major expansion with the addition of several new members.
