Niantic responds to Pokémon GO controversy; will not revert controversial changes

Although several companies will not go to gamescom 2022, Ubisoft confirms attendance

This year has not been one of the best for the players of Pokémon GO, because Niantic conditioned one of the most useful features of the game. This has caused a campaign on social networks in order for Niantic to back down with its plans. The company has listened to the requests, but does not plan to reverse the changes.

Following the limitations on Remote Raids and Remote Raid Passes, which allowed players to join Remote Raids, the community was outraged and through the #HearUsNiantic campaign they planned to make the company aware that it was in an error and thus revert those changes.

However, it’s been a long time since the changes went into effect and it looks like Niantic won’t be doing anything about it. In fact, the company had not spoken about this controversy, but it has finally done so to explain and make players understand the reasons for the changes.

Niantic explained the controversial changes it made to Pokémon GO

Game Director Michael Steranka and Senior Producer John Funtanilla stepped up to discuss the decision surrounding the changes to Remote Raid Passes and the lack of communication felt by the community.

With no response from Niantic or creative, players feel ignored, but Steranka mentions that this is not the case, they have taken note of requests from players and campaigns, which are “hard to ignore”, and He confesses that they are one of the situations in which they do not want to give an answer unless they have something to say: “And for us, for the rest of this year, we feel that actions will speak louder than words,” said the developer in an interview with Dot Esports.

Steranka confesses that he was one of the people who participated in the most Remote Raids, and that therefore the changes to this element of the game “were very difficult decisions to make.”

In case you missed it: players of Pokémon GO have threatened Niantic developers over controversial changes to the game.

Why were Remote Raid Passes limited in Pokémon GO?

However, he reiterated that the direction Remote Raid Passes were taking the game “didn’t align with the type of experience” Niantic wanted to offer in Pokémon GO and that the decision was made considering the assurance of the longevity and vision of the project.

“I can honestly say that for me it became like an unhealthy way to get hooked on the game. I would just throw and convert money into Pokécoins so that I could replay legendary raids as much as possible,” Steranka said.

Steranka referred to the great ease with which players had access to legendary Raids to such an extent that they participated in dozens a day and that Niantic was wrong in that sense, since they are the most important creatures in the game, but they could be obtained in the simplest way.

Niantic does not plan to back down from its controversial decisions to Pokémon GO

That said, it’s clear that Niantic has a solid plan for Pokémon GO and Steranka reaffirmed it by mentioning that they do not plan to make changes that the players are requesting, but that they will be faithful to their decision.

So yeah, we have no plans to address any of the recent #HearUsNiantic stuff because we’ll stick with the decision that was made. Instead, we hope players see all the hard work the team has put into the game. over the past year because I think what we’ll come out with in 2023 will surprise people,” Steranka concluded.
