The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has provided technical support to the development of the new website of the Los Angeles Declaration at the request of the acceding States. During its ministerial meeting in Guatemala City, the UN agency presented the digital platform that marks a significant milestone in the constant commitment of 22 countries to migration in the American continent.
The Declaration of the Angels is a historic document that establishes fundamental principles to guide policies and practices related to migration and protection. Through this declaration, the countries of the Americas recognize the need to work collaboratively to protect the dignity, life and human rights of all migrants regardless of their migratory status and represents the commitment of twenty-two countries to manage the challenges and opportunities presented by migration in the region in the 21st century.
The new website, which is available in three languages, Spanish, French and English, offers easy and direct access to the Los Angeles Declaration, as well as additional resources, tools and educational materials related to migration in the region. Featured features include:
- Access to updated and reliable data and statistics on migration and protection in Latin America and the Caribbean
- Educational resources and exchange of good practices, with a wide range of resources and materials, including case studies addressing various aspects of migration and protection
- News and events to stay up to date on the latest news and events related to migration and protection at the regional level
- Interactive tools that help users better understand the opportunities and challenges associated with migration and protection
The new website gives countries in the region, partners and users the opportunity to participate and contribute to the conversation on migration and protection as part of the commitment to collaboration.
IOM invites governments, non-governmental organizations, academics, media and the public to visit the website and join in promoting safe, orderly and regular migration following the Global Compact for Migration.
