Synology has announced the launch of its new NAS for home and professional users. Its about DiskStation DS1522+, a model with 5 3.5-inch SATA III bays equipped with an integrated AMD Ryzen R1600 processor.
This processor has 2 cores at 2.6 GHz base and 3.1 GHz in turbo mode and is accompanied by a memory module DDR4 ECC (bug fix) of 8 GB, although it supports a maximum of 32 GB distributed in two 16 GB modules. In addition to the 5 SATA ports, it also has support for two M.2 NVMe drives for storage or cache.
Network connectivity is via four 1 Gbps (Ethernet) RJ 45 ports with Link Aggregation (LAG) support. These ports can be supplemented with a module optional with 10GbE connectivity. It also offers two ports USB 3.0 and two eSATA for external drives. All this seasoned with the operating system Disk Station Manager (DSM) of the company.
The DiskStation DS1522+ measures 166 x 230 x 223mm and weighs 2.7kg. It is cooled by a 92mm fan with three modes of operation and the entire system is powered by a 120W power adapter. Its price will be around 700 euros.
