New Knights of the Zodiac movie is a disaster and critics repudiate it

While movies and video game series are on a roll, western anime and manga adaptations still leave a lot to be desired. It is for this very reason that the community was wary of the new live action film of Knights of the Zodiac. Unfortunately, there were reasons to be concerned.

After a long wait, The Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya – The Beginning, the new film based on the work of Masami Kurumada, reached theaters in Mexico and more regions of the world. Perhaps to the surprise of few people, it was unable to meet the expectations of fans and specialized critics.

Critics and fans repudiated The Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya – The beginning

During its official premiere, the feature film directed by Tomasz Baginski received multiple negative ratings. Critics argue that it strays too far from the source material and that the fights, while interesting in concept, leave something to be desired due to shoddy special effects. Also the design of the armor divided opinions.

The poor reception was reflected in the Tomatazos Tomatometer. At the time of writing these lines, The Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya – The Beginning it has a poor approval rating of 6%, which means that the vast majority of professional critics disliked it and do not recommend it.

Certainly, it seems unlikely that this production can come back and receive positive ratings in the coming days. It remains to be seen if, despite the negative evaluations, it achieves a decent run on the billboard. We’ll have to wait to find out.

What is The Knights of the Zodiac: Saint Seiya – The Beginning?

This new adaptation of the popular work by Masami Kurumada is directed by Tomasz Bagiński and has a script by Josh Campbell, Matthew Stuecken and Kiel Murray. In the main cast we find Mackenyu Arata as Seiya, Madison Iserman as Athena and Diego Tinoco as Nero.

This new live action tape of Knights of the Zodiac tells the origin story of Seiya, a young street fighter looking for his sister. When he awakens his mystical powers, he finds himself involved in a full-scale conflict. Although it is an adaptation of the original manga, it takes many elements from the Netflix animated series.
