Hennig comments that the setting and context in which Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra takes place allows them to tell “a lot of interesting things,” “including telling the story of a young Steve Rogers who is still trying to find his place, as opposed to the toughest guy we’ve seen in several movies. On the other hand we have the presentation of the 1943 Black Panther who is Azzuri, the father of T’Chaka and N’Jobu, as well as the grandfather of T’Challa, who is described as a “more mature” character than the young Captain America. .
Steve Rogers and Azzuri, played by Drew Moerlein and Khary Payton, respectively, meet in occupied Paris in 1943 and are initially rivals, but must form an uneasy alliance to overcome a common threat. It’s no secret that the bad guys are the Nazis and the Hydra organization, which during this era re-emerged under the leadership of Johann Schmidt (Red Skull). Hennig promises a story with intrigue, twists, fascinating characters and interesting locations.
In addition to occupied Paris, another of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra’s key settings is Wakanda. “Right now Wakanda is hidden from the outside world and protected by an impenetrable jungle,” says Henning. “They are not interventionists, but events drag them into conflict. They have to protect their interests. The world is getting smaller. There are no satellites yet, but they will soon appear. They can shoot down planes that try to fly over Wakanda, but how long can they stay in the shadows?”
Hennig also comments that the game will offer a “photorealistic and cinematic level of detail.” The director and screenwriter comments that the visual fidelity has to be high to increase the players’ immersion and make them feel as if they were watching a Marvel movie or series in which they direct the action. Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra is being developed by Skydance New Media and has been used by Epic Games to showcase the benefits of the latest versions of Unreal 5.
