‘Gears of War’, the franchise of the third-person shooter genre and the second most important property of the Xbox brand in sales, will reach the Netflix catalog in at least two types of new content. The streaming giant has announced this Monday a live-action movie and an animated series rated for adults of the famous video game, all this “with potential for more stories”.
The announcement comes just in time for the anniversary of ‘Gears of War’, which breaks light for the first time on November 7, 2006 and which, precisely, has just turned 16 years old. At the moment, there are not too many details about the series and the movie. However, Netflix is known to have partnered with The Coalition, the developer that took over the franchise after Microsoft bought it from Epic Games.
‘Gears of War’ is coming to Netflix’s catalog
Netflix for now has not released a project roadmap with its release dates. We also don’t have any details on the cast, filmmakers, or associate executive directors. The truth is that this is not the first time that an attempt has been made to produce audiovisual content for ‘Gears of War’. In 2010, Universal Pictures tried it, but the idea did not go beyond the stage of writing the script.
The story of ‘Gears of War’ revolves around Sera, a planet on the brink of collapse facing a severe energy crisis. Fortunately (or not) they find Imulsion underground, a promising energy source that could solve many of their problems. However, they are attacked by subterranean creatures called Locust that put everything they had achieved in check.
It remains to be seen what part of the story the content that will reach the Netflix catalog will tell us. However, let us remember that this It is not the only bet of the streaming giant to adapt video games. The anime ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ and ‘Arcane’ from League of Legend recently arrived, and a ‘BioShock’ movie, an ‘Assassin’s Creed’ series and more are on the way.
