The controversial advertising plan that Netflix implemented to eliminate the cheapest basic plan in several countries seems to be giving joy to the main multimedia streaming company.

In just 5 months, Netflix assures having practically doubled the number of users of the advertising plan, going from 23 million to 40 million users per month who have to view ads when consuming movies and series on the platform.

The plan appears to be successful in new registrations as well, as company data shows that 40% of new user accounts have opted to contract the most basic plan with ads includedmaking Netflix function as a kind of cable television where users, although they pay to watch content, still have to view ads.

In fact, although the company partnered with Microsoft to manage these ads, they are expanding boundaries and will partner with Google, Magnite and Trade Desk to further expand their advertising platform.

This controversial measure was accompanied by another even more worrying one: After years promoting the possibility of account sharing between family members, Netflix decided to unilaterally block the use of a family account between members of the same family who do not reside at the same address. This meant the cancellation of many paid Netflix accounts, losing, in Spain alone, more than a million users in just three months.
