Netflix begins phasing out ad-free Basic plan in UK and Canada

The streaming content platform Netflix has begun phasing out its cheapest ad-free plan and has forced users in some regions such as the UK and Canada to choose a new plan to keep their subscription active.

The company has been considering a change to its subscription plans for months, which began with the introduction of a more affordable advertising-based plan, the end of shared accounts and the increase in the cost of its other modalities.

A few months ago, it announced that it would stop offering the ad-free Basic plan to new subscribers, starting with Canada and the United Kingdom. Shortly after, it announced that it would finally eliminate this format permanently from its offer, starting also with those countries, which would affect users. who were already paying for said plan.

Now, users of Reddit with subscribers to the basic plan without advertising – which is the cheapest of those that do not include ads – from these countries have indicated have received an email from the company indicating the end of this format.

This change, which is also displayed in the application interface when starting it, has been notified through the application itself. Web of the brand, which states that “the basic plan has been discontinued.”

In this communication, the streaming content platform warns users that they must choose another subscription plan to continue enjoying the content. Otherwise, will suspend the activity of their profiles.

This means that current subscribers will have to choose either the ad-supported plan (also known as standard with ads), the standard plan without ads, or the Premium plan. At the moment, it is not known when this change will be extended to other regions.
