Flight departure delayed as Knesset debates judicial reform
March 15 () –
The office of the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has reported this Friday that his visit to Berlin, the German capital, will be cut short due to a series of “incidents” in terms of security and after the departure of his flight has also been late.
Thus, Netanyahu will travel to Berlin this Wednesday at the last minute and will leave the country on Thursday instead of Friday, as initially planned, according to information from the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.
The decision was made after Netanyahu met Defense Minister Yoav Gallant on Wednesday afternoon. Subsequently, he has announced a change in his itinerary.
Various media, for their part, have indicated that one of the incidents that would have caused the shortening of the visit would be related to the explosion registered on Monday in the city of Megiddo, in northern Israel.
The German Police had previously announced that it would implement a series of security measures before the arrival of Netanyahu and would cordon off the areas to be traveled by the Israeli prime minister during his visit.
Now, the president has also specified that his plane will take off at 10:00 p.m. (local time) this Wednesday, and not at 5:00 p.m., as planned. The delay in the departure of the flight is linked to the parliamentary debate on the controversial judicial reform that the Government is trying to carry out.
