Netanyahu extols the “patriotism” of the 200,000 protesters who support judicial reform in Jerusalem

27 Apr. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has extolled this Thursday the “patriotism” of the nearly 200,000 protesters who have come to the Cinema City shopping center in Jerusalem to support the judicial reform promoted by the Government.

“I thank the hundreds of thousands of Israelis who came to Jerusalem tonight to support our government. Their passion and patriotism moves me deeply,” the Israeli prime minister said on his official Twitter profile.

The organizers of the protests, who support Netanyahu’s coalition government, have indicated in a statement that they will redouble the protests to support the reform and will thus call another demonstration for Saturday.

“As of this Sunday, when the Knesset recess ends, only one vote separates Israel from becoming an ultranationalist dictatorship. This is a clear and immediate danger to democracy in the country,” organizers said, according to reports. collected by the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’.

The judicial reform has already been approved in the first reading in the Israeli Parliament. Its detractors denounce that, with this measure, the Government would assume absolute control over the Judiciary, which would also be tied hand and foot to question the laws approved in the Knesset.
