MADRID 22 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, discussed this Tuesday in Jerusalem a government plan for the Gaza Strip once the war ends.
“The parties have discussed the issue of the governance framework for Gaza the day after the war,” reported the office of the Israeli prime minister, who has conveyed his confidence to Blinken that the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could contribute to the outcome of the conflict.
The Israeli statement does not give details of how this “government framework” could be implemented for the Gaza Strip, when there are several voices, including that of the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, who are committed to building settlements of Jewish settlers in the enclave and encourage Palestinian emigration.
Since the start of the attacks on Gaza, Washington has urged the Israeli government to develop a plan for once the war ends, warning that if it does not do so the situation in the enclave could get much worse.
However, most of the note refers to the alleged dangers that Iran brings to the region and the need for Israel and the United States to strengthen their ties to combat this “axis of evil” led by Tehran.
Likewise, Netanyahu has updated the head of American diplomacy on the “latest updates” of the Israeli military campaign in Lebanon and “the need for a political and security change in the north”, which would allow Israel to return to their homes citizens who have been displaced.
The statement indicates that Blinken has also conveyed the “deep shock” of the United States upon learning of this weekend’s Hezbollah attack against Netanyahu’s private residence in the town of Caesarea.
This Monday, Blinken began a new tour of the Middle East, with which, like the previous ten, he will seek to accelerate the end of the war in the Gaza Strip, as well as on this occasion a “diplomatic exit” in Lebanon.
