June 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s legal team on Wednesday informed the Jerusalem court handling his corruption case that he will not be able to testify until March 2025 due to the war.
“In the current situation, where defense is required to prepare the prime minister to testify in the middle of war, the period of time needed to do so in a way that does not compromise his rights and defense is significantly longer,” has justified Netanyahu’s defense.
In that sense, the defense has assured that even in situations not as extreme as the current one, “preparations to hear the testimony of an accused on such a scale require a significant period of time,” reports the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’. .
As a consequence of the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023, the Ministry of Justice ordered the halt of almost any case that was not considered urgent. However, in early November the first hearing of the case against the Israeli prime minister took place in the Jerusalem District Court.
The prime minister is accused of a series of crimes in three cases, accused for example of fraud or accepting bribes, although he has always denounced that everything is part of political persecution. In fact, he managed to return to power for a sixth term already with the processes open, at the end of 2022.
