Netanyahu cancels Gallant order to build field hospital for Gazan children in Israel

Jul 18 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday revoked an order issued by the Defense Ministry to build a temporary field hospital on Israeli territory to treat Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu’s office said it had sent a letter to his minister refusing to establish a children’s hospital near the Gaza border, an initiative Gallant discussed in a call with his US counterpart, Lloyd Austin.

The Israeli military is believed to be in charge of implementing the initiative, which seeks to relieve pressure around the Rafah crossing, which connects with Egypt and is used by the wounded to receive medical treatment, The Times of Israel reported.

This action highlights the tensions within the Netanyahu government, although the Israeli prime minister has reportedly agreed to have cases of complex injuries in the context of the conflict sent abroad via Israel.

The death toll from the military offensive launched by Israel against Gaza following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and other Palestinian factions against Israeli territory has exceeded the threshold of 38,800, according to the Gazan authorities, controlled by the Islamist group, on Thursday.
