NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte confirmed this Monday North Korea’s military deployment in the Russian Kursk region, in support of Russia’s war effort, assuring that it is a “significant escalation” of the involvement of Pyongyang in the war against Ukraine.

In a statement from the allied headquarters in Brussels, after meeting with a South Korean Intelligence delegation, the political head of NATO pointed out the sending of North Korean troops to Russia, more specifically “military units deployed in the Kursk region “.

This deployment represents a “significant escalation in North Korea’s involvement in the illegal Russian war,” he noted, in addition to a new violation of United Nations resolutions and a “dangerous expansion” of Russia’s war.

A delegation from the National Intelligence Service (NIS) of South Korea informed NATO members this Monday and another similar meeting is expected with the European Union, after Seoul has warned of North Korea’s military deployment in Russia .

The mission headed by the deputy director of the Intelligence agency, Hong Jang Won, has met with NATO allies and with diplomats from Japan, Australia and New Zealand who have also been invited to participate in the meeting.
