In a few years there will be astronauts on the moonbut not only on its surface. Also, in The Gateway space stationwith significant participation from the European Space Agency (ESA).
The Portal, its translation into Spanish, will be a space station similar to the International Space Station, but that will orbit the Moon. The first human settlement in deep space.
For the first time, in the video that you can see at the beginning of the news, we can see, in great detail, what it will be like The Gateway.
A space station on the Moon
The Gateway is being built by NASA, the European Space Agency (ESA), the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre (MBRSC) in the United Arab Emirates.
In the case of the ESA, it is responsible for manufacturing the communication system with the Moon, the life support system for astronauts, the habitability module (where astronauts will sleep), as well as the Lunar View module which will, among other things, provide a refueling system, a cargo warehouse, and the best views of the Moon.
NASA plans to begin transporting the modules to the Moon in 2028, and assembling them there. Astronauts will be able to live in The Gateway in 2031.
It will not have astronauts permanently, as in the International Space Station, but it will will be inhabited several months a year.
It will serve as a communications link between Earth and the surface of the Moon, and as a waiting portal for landing on the Moon, or returning to Earth. Scientific experiments will also be carried out.
NASA’s idea is for the Orion spacecraft to transport international teams of astronauts to the Gateway. Once there, the Human Landing System (HLS) will transport the astronauts to the lunar South Pole. This HLS module will be built by NASA. SpaceX and Blue Origin. They are the Starship HLS and the Blue Moon HLS, respectively.
Humans are about to embark on their greatest space adventure. Living in a space station on the Moon, as a first step towards inhabiting the surface of our satellite.
Known how we work in Computerhoy.
