The mayor of the South African city Collins Chabane (north), Moses Maluleke, has died after being shot by unidentified people who broke into his home, an incident in which his son was injured.
The South African Police have detailed through their official account on the social network Twitter that Maluleke, 56, was shot to death on Thursday and has indicated that the attack was carried out by “three unidentified suspects”.
He has also said that “anyone who has information about the murder of the mayor of Collins Chabane, in the Limpopo region” should contact the authorities, who have launched a 72-hour plan to try to capture those responsible.
At the moment the causes of Maluleke’s murder are unknown, although local media have pointed to a possible robbery attempt at his home. The authorities have not yet ruled on this point.
