This week, Multi Versus received a major update that added Gizmo and completely overhauled the collision system. Additionally, all characters received tweaks that promise to improve balance. While these changes resonated with the community, one stands out from the rest and spawned all sorts of theories around it.
In case you don’t know, Velma, a character from Scooby Doo, had a passive ability that allowed him to call a police car to the battlefield if he collected “clues” that appeared on the map during the match. While the attack is still in the game after the latest patch, it looks different now.

What happens is that Velma dispensed with the law enforcement officers and now calls her colleagues from the Mystery Inc., who will attack the rival players in the iconic truck of the animated series. Without a doubt, a minor change that is limited to the aesthetic field.
The developers indicated this situation in the patch notes, but did not disclose the reasons behind the change. Thus, the community theorizes that the change revolves around the cases of police brutality that unfortunately plague the United States and other countries.

When Waner Bros. and Player First Games revealed Velma as a playable character, a section of the community expressed their displeasure at seeing characters (especially black ones like LeBron James) attacked by a police car. In fact, as highlighted by the portal polygonala group of gamers created a petition to remove the police car from the game.
I am enjoying Velma in Multiversus but maining a character who’s special move is calling the police on her enemies definitely don’t sit right with me as a black man lol pic.twitter.com/kvtfHwM3OC

It is possible that the developers wanted to distance themselves from the controversy by replacing the car with the hippie van from Scooby-Doo and his friends. However, this is mere speculation, so we will have to wait for an official statement to find out the truth.
But tell us, what do you think of this situation? What do you think is the reason for the change? Let us read you in the comments.
