MSI advances its Claw 8 AI+, with Lunar Lake and a complete redesign for the second generation of the laptop

Back in January, coinciding with CES 2024, MSI unveiled its Claw portable console, a machine with an Intel Core Ultra processor that wanted to join the same party as others like ROG Ally, Legion Go and, of course, Steam Deck. It was a calamity. Its sustained performance and autonomy turned out to be so alarmingly poor that, just half a year later, we already have the first images of the second generation.

Present at Computex 2024, the new console is called Claw 8 AI+, largely due to the AI functions incorporated thanks to the use of a still unknown Lunar Lake processor. DigitalTrends has been able to take a first look at its hardware, and although it does not offer many details, in its article it talks about a complete hardware redesign that will incorporate up to 32 GB of LPDDR5x memory (currently it is 16 GB) and an SSD of up to 1 TB using the M.2 format for easy updating.

Externally the changes are also profound, even though the position of the controls remains unchanged. The case has much smoother lines, there are two Thunderbolt connectors on the top and the triggers appear to have been redesigned. In the central position we now find a slightly larger screen, with 8 inches, Full HD resolution and the ability to reach a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz.

Finally, the size of the battery has also been increased, going from 53 Wh to 80 Wh. An extremely necessary change if the criticism received by the first generation model is taken into account. According to a press release published by the company, the device’s charger is lighter than the previous one.

Claw x Fallout

MSI has not indicated the price or release date of the Claw 8 AI+. All there is is a prototype with very restricted access (you are not even allowed to touch it) and the few photographs that DigitalTrends has been able to take. In the absence of more information, MSI has seen fit to announce a special edition of the first generation of Claw developed in collaboration with Bethesda and inspired by the aesthetics of Fallout.
