MSF warns of the collapse of hospitals after the wave of Israeli attacks in central Gaza

June 8 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has warned this Saturday of the collapse of Gazan hospitals after the latest wave of attacks by the Israeli Army in Deir el Balá and the Nuseirat refugee camp, in the center of the Gaza Strip.

“The system is so saturated that many patients stay much longer than they should in this emergency department. Children completely gray or white from shock, burned, screaming for their parents, many of them without screaming because they are in a state of shock,” said MSF medical officer at Al Aqsa hospital, Karin Huster.

Huster has described the “chaos” inside the hospital: the emergency room, the red zone – where the most seriously ill patients are located – and the rest of the areas were “completely packed with patients on the floor from the bombings.” of Nuseirat”.

“I have no idea how many dead there were. We didn’t have time to check the morgue. Or to take a look at the entrance. It was, as always, chaos, but a worse chaos compared to the last four days,” he said. sentenced.

Although the hospital was “completely overwhelmed,” Huster indicated that they managed to refer numerous patients to the Naser hospital and that the medical team did “an incredible job.” “It is not difficult to imagine the horror we saw,” she said.

For his part, the head of the MSF medical team at the Naser hospital, Chris Hook, explained that “the hospital was more or less warned that some patients could begin to arrive”, although they did not know their number.

According to Hook, about 50 seriously injured people have been admitted to the hospital facilities. “There are people with multiple and serious open fractures in their extremities,” he highlighted, adding that some have “very serious burns.”

“The operating rooms are operating at full capacity. The resources we have are very limited; the emergency department has been able to evacuate a large number of patients who were already here, but there is a shortage of capacity to perform CT scans,” he said.

Due to the lack of supplies, Hook has detailed that they have to ration “a little” both morphine and ketamine, “The intensive care unit is already full, and more patients are arriving. It is a serious event with mass casualties” , he pointed out.

At least 210 people have died and more than 400 have been injured as a result of the attacks launched this Saturday against several areas of central Gaza, according to the press office of the Gazan authorities, under the control of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).
