Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has announced that it has been forced to temporarily close the NGO’s last operational health centre in the northern Gaza Strip following the latest evacuation order issued by the Israeli army on Monday in several areas of Gaza City.
“MSF is ready to resume its activities at the clinic in Gaza City, but this requires ensuring the safety and security of the health facilities, their surroundings and their staff,” it said on social media.
The NGO said its teams “continued to treat patients until they had to leave the area, where intense gunfire took place.” “Repeated evacuation orders and the destruction of health facilities mean that residents in northern Gaza have little access to medical care,” it added.
Suhail Habib, who works as a mechanic for MSF, said the only operational hospitals in the area were the Indonesian and Kamal Adwan hospitals. “I am upset because when the wounded come to the clinic they will find it closed,” he added.
Habib, who has had to move several times to escape the bombings perpetrated by Israel, explained in a video published by the NGO on the aforementioned social network that they have nothing to eat or drink. “We sleep on the street,” he stressed.
Authorities in the Gaza Strip, controlled by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), on Wednesday estimated that nearly 38,300 Palestinians had died as a result of the military offensive unleashed by Israel following the attacks carried out on October 7 by the Islamist group and other Palestinian factions.
