MSF denounces that the RSF seized a truck with medical aid in White Nile state (Sudan)

MADRID 17 Oct. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The NGO Doctors Without Borders (MSF) denounced this Wednesday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) seized a truck with medical aid almost a month ago in the state of White Nile, southern Sudan, and have urged them to provide information about the whereabouts of the driver and to return the vehicle.

MSF has explained that the vehicle was forcibly stopped on September 20 at an RSF checkpoint in Al Shigig, in White Nile state, although the last contact with the driver was on October 7. “We are concerned for his safety and the fate of the essential medical supplies he was transporting,” reads a statement.

The shipment was headed to Kosti, where MSF teams provide primary medical care, mental health support and other services to people displaced by the war. As the NGO has recalled, the cargo and the vehicle had the necessary documentation and travel permits.

“Since July, White Nile State has faced a total paralysis of aid, leaving health facilities without essential supplies. The confiscation of humanitarian aid is unacceptable,” said MSF General Coordinator Juan Carlos Cano. .

Sudan is mired in a civil war caused by differences over the integration of the RSF within the Armed Forces, a key part of an agreement signed in December 2022 to form a new civilian government and reactivate the transition opened after the 2019 overthrow of Omar Hasan al Bashir, damaged by the October 2021 coup, in which the then transition minister, Abdullah Hamdok, was overthrown.
