July 21 (EUROPA PRESS) –
A team of Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has been beaten and whipped by a group of armed men when they were on their way this past Thursday to deliver medical supplies to a hospital in the south of the Sudanese capital, Khartoum, one of the epicenters of the violent conflict. that the Sudanese Army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been fighting since April 15.
According to the NGO, the team, made up of 18 people, was intercepted by a group of armed men just 700 meters from the Turkish Hospital, one of the only two medical centers that are still open in the south of the capital.
The team was attacked by armed men “who beat and whipped them,” and one of the drivers “was detained and threatened with death before being released,” according to the NGO. The assailants also stole a vehicle. Doctors Without Borders does not provide further details about the identity of the attackers.
The NGO reminds hundreds of people — including children — to receive vital treatment. Without going any further, last Tuesday, the hospital received 44 patients injured in an air raid.
Every day, the hospital receives some 15 war wounded, performs vital surgeries and provides essential treatment for patients with chronic diseases.
MSF expresses its grave concern that, in the face of incidents like Thursday’s and similar ones that have preceded it, it will be unable to maintain its presence at the Turkish Hospital.
